Tissue Adhesives for Wound Closure in Cataract Surgery

چکیده
C lear corneal incisions have marked a breakthrough in phacoemulsification, because they reduce surgical time, speed patients’ postoperative recovery, and reduce the rate of induced astigmatism. They also significantly decrease the incidence of the complications associated with scleral tunnels such as conjunctival manipulation and hyphema. Studies, however, have suggested a potentially increased risk of postoperative endophthalmitis with clear corneal incisions.1,2 For that reason, many ophthalmologists have become interested in strengthening the seal of these wounds. This article focuses on one such method, tissue adhesive.

In-vitro evaluation of antibacterial potential of cyanoacrylate tissue adhesives for intraoral wound closure
Background: Cyanoacrylate tissue adhesives have been used as a substitute to silk for intraoral wound closure. Placement of sutures provides a corridor for accumulation of microorganisms into tissue which leads to infection. Cyanoacrylate-based adhesives exhibit many properties of an ideal wound closure agent, minimizing the problems generated by suturing thread. The antimicrobial properties of...

BACKGROUND Wound closure devices include sutures, tissue adhesives, adhesive strips, and staples. Recent studies suggest no differences between various tissue adhesives and sutures for dehiscence, infection, and satisfaction when assessed by patients or surgeons. To date, no studies have investigated ClozeX, a novel adhesive strip, for closure of surgical incisions. OBJECTIVE To compare surgi...
متن کاملA clinical trial of tissue adhesive (histoacryl) in skin closure of groin wounds.
The use of tissue adhesives has been widely studied since the 1960s. Since then they have found use in specialties like plastic surgery, neurosurgery, ENT surgery and dental surgery. Several papers have reported their safe use, both clinically and experimentally, particularly of the newer homologue n-butyl/2-cyanoacrylate (Histoacryl). In this study 43 patients (46 wounds) whose operations invo...
متن کاملA Randomized Controlled Trial of Tissue Adhesive Versus Sutures in the Closure of Port-Site Incisions in Laparoscopic Surgery
Cyanoacrylates have been recognized since before the 1960s as excellent tissue adhesives. They are easy to use, cost-effective, and cosmetically favorable. There are no studies from India reporting the use of tissue adhesives in laparoscopic surgery. We carried out a prospective, interventional, randomized trial of non-absorbable simple interrupted sutures versus 2-octyl cyanoacrylate in the cl...

OBJECTIVE To compare the surgical efficacy and wound-healing characteristics of the tissue adhesive octyl-2-cyanoacrylate (approved by the Food and Drug Administration) with traditional suture closure in upper blepharoplasty. METHODS Prospective, randomized, blinded study comparing cosmetic and functional outcome and time efficiency. Twenty subjects underwent upper eyelid blepharoplasty. Each...
